*Ag in the Classroom Thursday, October 13, 1:30p and 2:00p

Kelly : August 18, 2022 4:47 pm : Kids, Kids' Events

Join us for this special monthly youth education program about agriculture, presented by the Peoria County Farm Bureau. Each month will focus on a different topic.

Apples are one of our favorite fruits, but most cannot identify the tree that the apple is grown from. When we think of pumpkins it is the bright orange jack-o-lantern that comes to mind, but Central Illinois is known around the world for the Dickinson pumpkin. Why? This lesson will help educate students about our local apple orchards and the trees that bear this fruit. In addition, we will uncover why the Dickinson pumpkin is our pumpkin of choice and how so many are grown right here in Peoria and Tazewell counties. Students will discover how farmers graft apple trees to create a specific variety and then they will practice grafting their own apple trees.

Geared toward grades 3-6.

*Registration required. Contact the library at 243-5716 to register.
