What’s Happening with Friends!

Upcoming Event

The Friends will be hosting a General Membership Meeting October 10th, 6-7 pm in the Dunlap Library community room with a virtual option. We welcome current Friends and those interested in learning more about the Friends of Dunlap Library. Check back for more details regarding the meeting. 

 While we love to see our Friends, if you’re unable to attend the meeting in person, a Zoom option will be available. Email Friends@dunlaplibrary for information on the Zoom option.

What We’ve Been Up To

We held our second General Membership Meeting on July 11th. Members made decisions regarding gifts for the library: 

• Purchased the next gift to the library, a one-year membership to Illinois Libraries Present.  This organization of almost 200 Illinois Libraries provides high quality online events.  Past events include “Thrills and Chills with Stephen Graham Jones,” “Danny Trejo Talks Tacos, Hollywood and Redemption,” and “Romance and Regency with Bridgerton’s Julia Quinn”.   

• Decided our gift giving goal: Tonie Boxes, a screen-free audio player for children that plays stories, songs, and encourages listeners to use their imagination.  Our goal is to raise $1000 to purchase two Tonie Boxes and an annual subscription that provides several new Tonies, the audio component, each month.  Tonie Boxes would be available for checkout. 

To reach our goals, we need help! Members reviewed and volunteered to participate on one of three committees:  

• The Fundraising Committee raises funds to make purchases for the library. 

• The Membership Committee focuses on recruiting and retaining members. 

• The Volunteer Programming Committee creates opportunities for volunteers to provide in person support, such as spring garden bed cleanup and assisting library staff to prepare for events.
