Join us for this special monthly youth education program about agriculture, presented by the Peoria County Farm Bureau. Each month will focus on a different topic. The lesson on horses will start with the history of the use of horses in farming. The lesson will also discuss types of horses, how they are cared for and what role they play in farming today. Students will have a chance to see the equipment we use with horses today. The younger classes will learn how horses are measured and get a chance to measure their classmates to find out what horse they compare to. The older classes will learn about horsepower; what that term means and how many horses would it take to do the jobs of current farming machinery. Then just for fun students will engineer a walking paper horse. Geared toward grades 3-6.
